Volunteers are an integral part of the Calgary Aphasia Centre. We are looking for volunteers to act as facilitators in communication groups for adults living with aphasia, a language disorder very common after stroke or brain injury.
Groups run once a week with morning and afternoon groups. Training will be provided to volunteers. This position is well-suited to undergraduate students who are interested in a health science career such as speech-language pathology, social work, disability studies, and psychology. It is also suitable for retired persons who would like to help stroke survivors practice communication skills.
Duration: Long-term, Ongoing (6+ months)
Required Skills: Volunteers need to be fluent in spoken and written English. Compassion for those living with chronic communication and physical disabilities, patience, active listening skills, experience with disabilities is an advantage.
Applicable Interests: A people person, someone who enjoys working with groups, has an interest in health sciences.
A current proof of police check is required.
